ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN HEALTH: RECENT ADVANCES..
Although many fear it and imagine a dystopian society governed by tyrannical automatons that completely replace humans, the truth is that Artificial Intelligence – with the dangers and adjustments that entail its implementation in various industries – has the potential to revolutionize and improve all sectors, from customer service and marketing to retail, sustainable development, talent redirection or financial management.
4 cutting-edge technologies that are revolutionizing medical care
One of the sectors that are already benefitting the most by the eruption of Artificial Intelligence is undoubtedly that of medicine. It is a field that receives advances in other leading technologies such as Big Data, 3D printing, or machine learning. Algorithms can save lives every day, diagnose skin cancer early, or optimize the functioning of emergency services, as well as assist and complement medical professionals during surgeries. Google has just developed an algorithm capable of predicting the death of a patient using neural networks.
In this post, we will highlight some recent initiatives based on AI, machine learning, and deep learning that contribute to improving the field of health.
Corti: the AI that recognizes a heart attack by phone
This Dutch startup, born in 2016, has revolutionized the attention of emergency services in Copenhagen, creating a disruptive technology of voice assistance. Its Artificial Intelligence makes it possible to recognize signs of heart attacks by analyzing emergency calls. It does not only recognize words, but it also detects hidden clues and can read between the lines, even if the caller does not know if he is suffering from a heart attack. It repairs the background sounds, passes from voice to text, and informs emergency professionals about the situation.
RadIO: express test to detect cancer
Developed by scientists from the National University of Science and Technology of Moscow (MISiS) in line with the team of the Mikhail Lomonosov Moscow State University, RadIO is one of the greatest examples of how the AI has a great capacity for the early diagnosis of various types of cancer. Cancer tests can be done in just ten minutes using this app.
Art Medical: the startup that wants to monitor incubated patients
The Israeli startup has created feeding and breathing tubes based on intelligent sensors for better monitoring of the admitted person, in order to avoid the complications that may arise when a patient is incubated. In this way, the medical and nursing professionals can access complete data in real time about the patients in intensive care units, making it possible to avoid greater risks.
Pysch-E: algorithms capable of predicting psychosis
Among IBM Watson’s most interesting projects is Psyche-E, an algorithm focused on evaluating mental problems through language to reduce the problems of the availability of highly qualified professionals, and adequate facilities to diagnose the patient.
Created hand-in-hand by researchers in psychiatry, data, engineering, and medicine from IBM, this technological solution based on Artificial Intelligence is able to predict, with relative precision, the presence of psychosis in a patient.
Its permanent availability, the capacity of success, and high availability are some of its main advantages. It should be noted that to date, the system has a precision percentage of almost 80%.
